In the past few years, Strasburg, Virginia has improved its community engagement, tourism, and economic development. With the town now hosting over 30 events, festivals and music series a year, an opportunity arose for Strasburg to overhaul their website completely. Needing to enhance community engagement, the new site had to convey relevant information, be navigated intuitively, and provide optimal security. All of these assets had to work within a visual design that paid homage to the beautiful and meaningful aspects of Strasburg. The new site utilizes a semi-scrolling feature, giving it a fresh look. On the homepage, large background images rotate between the surrounding Massanutten and Allegheny mountains, Shenandoah River, historical landmarks, and outdoor activities. Overlapped on the images are key links, simplifying navigation for residents. A robust calendar at the bottom allows for individual events to be added, assisting in the scheduling of the various activities happening in Strasburg. Residents can also add such events to their iCal or Google Calendar.
