Municode Cares
At Municode, we believe in serving the community and doing our part to protect our planet. Locally, our employees serve on the Board of Directors for the Tallahassee Community College; Community Foundation of North Florida; United Way of the Big Bend and the Healthy Women’s Clinic. We sponsored and taught at the Tallahassee Community College Veteran’s Entrepreneurship Program and sponsored and spoke at Youth Leadership Tallahassee, Class 15’s visit to the Tallahassee Magnetic Lab.
Municode provides corporate donations, conducts fundraising drives and/or provides employee
working hours in support of United Way, Boys Town, Ability First, Tallahassee Veterans Village, Habitat for Humanity, and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. In response to recent national disasters, employee fundraising drives benefitted the victims (both in the United States and in the Caribbean) of Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, Maria and Michael. Clients who have been impacted by hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, and fires receive offers to replace any damaged Code books at no cost. We also provide flexibility company-wide for employees to serve in personal, non-profit passions during working hours.
We are proud to support numerous Clerk, Attorney, Municipal, and County Associations. Additionally, we partner with the International Institute of Municipal Clerks and the International Municipal Lawyers Association to provide services to their members. Our Vice President of Sales, Dale Barstow, is the former President and a current Board member of the Municipal Clerks Education (MCEF) Foundation. We also contribute to the MCEF to support clerk education opportunities.
Environmental Stewardship
Municode practices responsible environmental stewardship as a corporation. Our most significant environmental impact results from providing printed copies of Codes and supplements to our clients and their subscribers. To combat this, we print our codes on acid-free, recycled paper with 30% post-consumer recycled content. The Sustainable Forest Industry (SFI), the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and the Program for Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) environmentally certified our paper. We use paper infused with ColorLok© technology for improved longevity and performance, which easily withstands the tests of time and frequent usage. We only use 20-pound paper stock, which is considered a “true commodity” stock. This practice reduces our environmental footprint and the cost of both production and transportation to the eventual purchaser.
We encourage our clients to reduce the number of printed copies we provide by updating the online Code more frequently. Many of our most progressive municipalities and counties have now gone paperless, receiving their Codes and supplements only in digital electronic format.
We minimize internal printing to reduce paper and toner usage and equip our home office with recycling bins for all material with recycling potential. Plastic straws and disposable food containers in our Tallahassee, FL headquarters are discouraged. Also, we provide our employees with a fully-stocked kitchen for re-use of non-disposable food containers and eating utensils with shelf lives that do not expire. Our goal is not to overburden our already crowded landfills.
Recently, Municode installed solar panels at its Tallahassee, FL headquarters. The goal is for the company to be independent of the power grid and continue our commitment to environmental stewardship by using clean energy.
