With a website only functioning for its staff, Kenai, Alaska looked to increase online citizen engagement. Its old site lacked accessibility, and the overall structure felt outdated. Kenai staff needed common-sense navigation menus, efficient content filtering options, built-in meeting, and agenda management through an online module and an easy way to publish content. The visual design had to integrate these features while homing in on Kenai's culture and natural beauty. By adopting a non-scrolling homepage, residents can easily navigate the site through the top menu and action buttons on the bottom. Between the two rests images of Kenai, with a mountain top frame, capturing its culture and beauty. Kenai also uses Municode Meetings which integrates seamlessly into its site. Updating the site has never been easier as non-technical staff can upload content quickly and efficiently.
